What orphan drugs are

A modern civilised Country can not get out of curing also its weaker members and let them feel abandoned.

In the United States at the end of the 70s, it has been developed a strong opinion's movement, that aimed at focusing authorities' and public opinion's attention on orphan drugs theme and on rare diseases' therapy.

This term was coined by T.H. Althius; the Orphan drug is a product potentially useful to treat a disease, but it does not have a sufficient market to repay expenses of its development, remaining without a sponsor and therefore ORPHAN.
